Abstract Impressionism (my take)

I really love painting, whether abstract or abstract impressionistic.  My challenge when painting in the latter is to give the imagery some realistic qualities which help to tie it to real life.  And it’s a delicate balance, making it totally unique, relevant to reality and yet “abstract”.  Sometimes I ask a lot of my viewing audience in terms of seeing the reality in a painting, or to free your mind in order to give the piece credit for the alternative or abstract qualities it takes on, like colour, composition, textures… and just its spirit.

Here’s my latest, not a typical “poppy” painting by any means, entitled “Wild Poppies” (36 x 48″).  Read into it what you will…
